Cross Plane Crankshaft

The crossplane design was first proposed in 1915, and developed by Cadillac and Peerless, both of whom produced flatplane V8s before introducing the crossplane design. Cadillac introduced the first crossplane in 1923, with Peerless following in 1924. In 4 cylinder engines, the technology is developed by YAMAHA Motor Corporation. They introduced this successful design in their MOTO GP bikes and the latest superbike. This technology interprets the positioning of the pistons or arrangement in the crankshaft in an inline engine and also the alteration of the firing order. The rapid torque pulse from the engine is diluted in this way to get more traction from the bike when it is exiting a corner. A crankshaft is a mechanical part in an engine which connects the big end of the connecting rod. Several big ends will be connected to the crank shaft. The crankshaft is also the output part of an engine. Here, in the case of a four cylinder engine, the pistons 2 & 3 are moved opposite by 90 de

Vehicle Dynamics - 2 Wheeler

VEHICLE DYNAMICS - WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT ? Altering the suspension a good idea? What will happen if you alter, try to improve the ground clearance or want to put a fancy or bigger and wider tire? Or more on the latest trend of ICE to EV conversion which alters the vehicle dynamics if not played well? Let's talk about few things to be considered and things to keep in mind before carrying out any modification to an OEM design. I will be talking more in terms of suspension, increase or decrease in ride height. We can always relate with the kind of modification we have carried out and then compare the scenario. Suspension Motorcycle's suspension serves a dual purpose: contributing to the vehicle's handling, braking and providing safety, comfort by keeping the vehicle's passengers comfortably isolated from road noise, bumps and vibrations. The typical motorcycle has a pair of fork tubes for the front suspension, and a swingarm with one or two shock absorbers for the rear sus

Signature Acoustics C-12 Ver 2

Hi Audiophiles, I haven't seen anybody mentioning the Made in India Signature Acoustics C-12 Version 1 or 2. Is it because people feel it as substandard and made in India ? I so wished to write a review and here it goes. Intro: I had lot of time trying out different budget level headsets 5 years back and somehow i came to know about this Indian company Signature acoustics and its maiden product C-12. The initial reviews were very good and made me try it out. Brought it for Rs 3000/- back then and was so happy for the next 2 years till the hard wires started splicing. Fast forward to 2017, i accidentally stumbled upon the same company selling out C-12 version 2 and that too for Rs 999/- introductory offer. Didn't even think twice, brought it, burned-in for 2 full days. Model: Elements C-12 Version2.0 Impedance: 22Ω±15% Sensitivity: 94±3dB &1KHz; 1mW; IEC318 Frequency response: 20~20KHz Distortion: Max: 3% & 1KHz Rated Input Power: 3mW Maximum Input Power: 5mW Level diff

Ducati Hyperstrada - Love at first ride

Rightly named Hyperstrada ! It's real hyper in character. This is my short and subtle review along with the riding experience and impression of a rare Ducati. Hmm, It looks weird, but appealing, it looks subtle in some part, but right amount of aggression altogether. It has top spec parts, but no silly graphics. Now comes the single sided swing arm, functionally designed bits and parts. I will simply keep on bragging about it, so let's make it short and precise. It gets all the eyes on road both wrong & right ones ! But hey, RED DUCATI ! Switching the engine on sounds similar to any other V-twin, ehmm L-twin. But hey, if u want a clearer description, i will say it's more like a roar than a purr ! Nothing special like an in-line 4 for some, but this is more of a wild aggression. Now the engine is near to a litre at 939cc to be precise. 110 BHP and 98NM of torque, hmm sounds average only until u realise that it's all peaking at 9000 rpm and 7500 rpm respectively

BHP Vs Torque

The Very Classic question indeed. What is BHP and what is torque in layman terms ? what is the simple relation between them ? For this, I will include few technical things also in this review to understand it better. What is torque ? Torque = Force X perpendicular distance. In layman terms, It is the actual twisting force produced at the crank of an engine due to the power stroke, the potential energy and kinetic energy stored on a flywheel. Consider a 4 stroke single cylinder engine in which the power is actually produced in one stroke, ie the power stroke. In order for the engine to run or the remaining 3 strokes to complete, we should store the excess energy produced by that one power stroke. For that, we have the flywheel. EX: If you have a 1-foot-long wrench and you exert a force of 10 pounds on the end of it then you apply a torque of 10 pound-feet (10 lb-ft). If the wrench were 2 feet long, the same force would apply a torque of 20 lb-ft. When an engine is said to make “20

Iridium Power

IRIDIUM SPARK PLUGS Facts, why is it preferred over normal plugs? Hello, there is no need of Introducing iridium spark plug to you people. It became very popular with the foray of performance bikes into the Indian Market. By the turn of the decade, we are going to witness more and more of these adrenalin injectors. We already saw a quarter litre sports bike in the form of Kawasaki Ninja 250r and also our home grown products like Yamaha R15, Karizma ZMR, Pulsar 220 dtsi, Apache 180 RTR etc. Sadly green baby, Ninja 250R is priced on a premium for most of us bikers in India. But don’t worry, we have our home grown products which are not far behind and also don’t cost us a bomb. So tinkering on the current offerings can yield us better power or at least a responsive feel. TADA….here comes a performance part in the form of spark plug. So what can a spark plug do to improve the performance? I am going to describe the basics of a spark plug and its working so as to clearly understand i

Yamaha FZ 250cc

Hey people, don't rush to your nearest Yamaha showroom. Its only a photoshop work of how the next Fazer 250 should look like. The current Fz 16 chassis is underexploited to a large extent by putting a puny 150cc engine. It can cope the forces of a single cylinder 250cc engine with ease. With the existing f
